Has Your Boiler Packed Up?

Has your boiler packed up, broken down, kicked the bucket and shuffled off this mortal coil?

Perhaps your heating is sad, leaking or generally feeling sorry for itself?

Is your once steaming hot water reduced to a luke lukewarm dribble?

Fear not! There may still be time to resuscitate the poor soul. But before you contact us for repair take a moment to check a few things:

Is your boiler a combination or system boiler?

Check you have enough water in your system. Pressurised systems such as these usually have a pressure gauge on the front or underside of the boiler or in the airing cupboard. These systems work best between 1 and 1.5bar. If the gauge read below or above this some boilers will ‘lock out’. Use your filling loop to fill and a drain off cock to reduce the pressure and reset the boiler by following the manufacturer’s instructions. If filled from a tank in the loft, is there water in there?

Do you have a prepaid gas meter?

First check you haven’t inadvertently run out of credit stopping gas to the boiler. If you have just topped up your credit the boiler may still need to be reset by following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Do you have a condensing boiler?

Check the condensate pipe, (white pipe that exits the boiler and heads to a drain), isn’t frozen, blocked or sitting beneath the water line of a drain.
